CUSTOMS BROKERAGE AGENT

JOB SUMMARY

The Customs Brokerage Agent will be accountable for managing the daily coordination of US Customs Brokerage for Preferred Freezer Logistics. A successful candidate will be hands-on with knowledge of all aspects to the customs brokerage processes.  A strong operational and regulatory discipline is required, with capability of multi-tasking to coordinate in a fast-paced, team environment.  The Agent will drive profitability and growth, in line with company vision and values.  Goals will be set to establish strategies to expand and support the customer base, contributing to the development of the logistics operations team and to successfully complete the requirements to become a Licensed Customs Broker (LCB).      

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process shipments, including but not limited to, classification; value conversions; translations; surety type and selection; transmitting and troubleshooting ABI; submitting documentation to Customs; duty transmission via ACH; requesting any missing documents from importer
  • Maintain and improve the operating plan and strategy for the US Customs Brokerage program, which ensures attainment of customer satisfaction goals, while exceeding profitability targets.
  • Serve as a contact on Customs related matters; assisting and/or quoting duty and import fees on goods to be imported
  • Manage and coordinate timely customs clearance and release
  • Coordinate protests or post entry amendments
  • Respond to any Customs request for information
  • Maintain shipment files, including but not limited to - opening the file, data entry, accurate and timely billing/invoicing, issuing applicable forms and documents, and follow up
  •  Provide our clients with the highest levels of customer service; maintain constant client and carrier communications, solutions based “can do” attitudes and consummate professionalism throughout the transportation lifecycle
  • Identify and prioritize client’s logistics needs, partner with warehouse operations and logistics to communicate recommendations to management to achieve a holistic, efficient and effective end-to-end product distribution model
  • Follow existing processes and procedures to ensure daily execution of transportation policies, operating standards, and Company import operations manual
  • Drive implementation of company operating plans, as well as continuous improvement initiatives

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 3-5 years experience in Customs Brokerage business
  • Strong knowledge of FDA, USDA, Customs Regulations and US Tariff
  • Outstanding customer service, client focus and accounting skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Must be able to work well under pressure in a time-sensitive environment
  • Computer skills to operate multi-system programs including proficiency in TMW, Excel, Outlook and Word and similar
